Denmark warns police to stop using Bluetooth headphones
A memo circulated last week alerted government departments and police districts about the potential surveillance dangers associated with wireless audio equipment, including headphones, earbuds, and speakers connected via Bluetooth, according to reports. The notice advised all police personnel to deactivate Bluetooth on phones, tablets, and computers used for professional purposes until further notice.
Police sources indicated that the urgent directive likely stems from “a very concrete incident or suspicion,” noting the unusual severity of the order. The intelligence agency stated that it was communicating a technical vulnerability highlighted by security researchers, though the timing suggests heightened security concerns, as noted by reports.
The alert comes amid intensifying friction between Washington and Copenhagen over US President Donald Trump’s efforts to acquire Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory with roughly 56,000 residents. Trump has framed the potential acquisition as crucial for national security to counter Russia and China in the Arctic—claims officials in Copenhagen, Beijing, and Moscow have repeatedly dismissed as unfounded.
Last week, Trump imposed a 10% tariff on eight European NATO countries, including Denmark, for opposing his Greenland bid and dispatching symbolic troop deployments to the island. He added that tariffs would increase to 25% in June until a “complete and total purchase” is completed.
European leaders have condemned the threats as “blackmail” that could trigger a “dangerous downward spiral,” while the EU reportedly prepares retaliatory trade measures. Both Denmark and Greenland maintain that the island is not for sale.
